Description | This evening is entirely devoted to Dental Nurses and Student Dental Nurses. These monthly meetings have been set up for Dental Nurses in the south region (Ox/Bucks/Berks/Hamps/I.O.W) to give Dental Nurses an ability to network and share ideas through open discussion, support their wellbeing plus be empowered to progress and further their career if they wish to do so. This will be delivered via Webinar. There will be an hour's CPD in which our speaker Sandra Smith talks about 'Infection Control and Human Papiloma Virus'. Following this will be an open forum and peer review discussion chaired by our guest speaker and the Tutor facilitating. | ||
Additional information | Sandra Smith is an engaging, and knowledgeable speaker, with very high ratings from those who attend her courses. She originally qualified as a dental nurse, and has an Honours BSc degree in Health Protection. Sandra specialises in Dental Infection Control and carries out audits and training for dental providers and their staff. Sandra started her career as a Dental Nurse in 1994 and has worked in both NHS and private dental practices. She was appointed Senior Dental Nurse for Wandsworth PCT in 2001 responsible for running the communicable disease dental clinic. Sandra has worked in the Infection Control industry since 2004, and has worked for a number of Primary Care Trusts and for the London Deanery/HEE. Sandra has been involved in incident investigations and provides technical advice on practice layout and design as well as compliance with national infection control and decontamination guidance. Objectives | Provide an overview of anatomy and an anatomical-based method of assessment for oropharyngeal malignancy. Increases awareness of the increasing incidence of HPV-related oropharyngeal malignancy, occurring in younger patients without the traditional risk factors for oral cancer. Give an update on the latest IPC guidance. | ||
Learning outcomes | Following the short lecture, delegates will have an understanding of HPV-related oropharyngeal malignancy and IPC related standards and improved early malignancy detection rates reduce potential patient harm. | ||
