DescriptionSafeguarding Adults from Abuse is everyone’s responsibility. This half day training course looks at supporting staff within a dental practice to be confident in meeting their safeguarding responsibilities with access to further reading provided. This course covers Level 2 & 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care for England (CQF) Unit 5. GDC Outcomes A, B, C & D.

Nigel Faiers, a qualified trainer and member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development has over 35 years experience in the care, support and healthcare sectors. In 2003 Nigel formed Faiers Training Limited and moved from managing a large portfolio of care and supported housing to delivering training and consultancy for the social care & healthcare sectors. Nigel has been delivering training on Safegurding Adults from abuse since 2003 and the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) since 2006 for staff at all levels both for his own company and on behalf of organisations such as the Social Care Institute for Excellence. Nigel believes in training that is both professional and practical. Nigel has also organised Managing Aggressive Behaviour training for over twenty years and a few years ago took over the delivery of these sessions.

Aims

To explain the role of dentistry in safeguarding adults from abuse.

Objectives

To increase the confidence of dental practice staff in understanding what is meant by abuse, safeguarding, adults at risk, confidentiality, identifying the signs of abuse and knowing how to report concerns internally and to the appropriate external authorities.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the sessions delegates will have covered the following topics:

· The question of trust

· Who abuses and why – Identifying key risk factors

· How big a problem is abuse? - nationally & locally

· What you can do to help prevent abuse

· The National & Local context - The Care Act, work of local safeguarding boards & key differences between safeguarding adults and children

· Understanding the key words and phrases used in Safeguarding work

· Recognising the tell tale signs of abuse

· Accountability – Including expectations on staff, confidentiality, disclosure, whistleblowing, reporting concerns internally and raising concerns with the Statutory Authorities

· What happens next? - Understanding the multi agency processes followed by Safeguarding Teams & other Statutory Agencies
