Aims

To update learners about contemporary periodontal disease and the management of periodontal disease.

Objectives

1 To provide training in screening and assessment for periodontal disease.

2 To explain contemporary non-surgical periodontal disease management.

3 To discuss periodontal treatment outcomes and interim care management programmes for patients.

4 To discuss treatment approaches and selection criteria for referral.

5 To outline multidisciplinary approach to comprehensive person-centred carer when managing patients with periodontal disease.

Learning outcomes

Following this course learners should be able to :-

1 Evaluate the periodontal tissues and accurately diagnose periodontal diseases.

2 Treatment plan periodontal care and provide non-surgical therapy.

3 Evaluate the results of periodontal treatment so as to establish and monitor suitable interim care management programmes for patients.

4 Act on the basis of complexity assessment so as to refer patients appropriately for specialist care.

5 Describe the role of dental care professionals in periodontal therapy and work with them in managing patients with periodontal disease.
