Aims

To raise awareness about some of the Leadership & Management training needs of educational supervisors in primary care.

To address some of the learning and development needs of educational supervisors around managing difficult or challenging trainees

To raise awareness and improve management of sexual harrassment in the work place

To ensure that educational supervisors are compliant with the GDC's enhanced CPD requirements

Objectives

To raise awareness of the healthcare leadership model and the current approaches to leadership in healthcare.

To familiarise educational supervisors with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours, expected of leaders.

For educational supervisors to understand how to demonstrate compassionate and inclusive leadership.

To ensure that educational supervisors are made aware of the Enhanced CPD requirements of the GDC

Learning outcomes

Delegates should:

Understand the importance of effective leadership in general dental practice.

Develop a better understanding of what "Good Clinical Leadership" looks like.

Understand the knowledge and skills required to lead quality improvement and to imbed a culture of quality improvement.

Become familiar with the features and characteristics of the "difficult" or "challenging" trainee.

Practice some mentoring and coaching skills designed for managing the difficult trainee.

Learn how to support peer-to-peer learning and exchange of ideas.

Learn what constitutes sexual harassment and how to effectively manage this.

Understand the importance of emotional intelligence and improve their self-awareness.

Develop appropriate language and communication skills to help manage difficult and challenging situations.

Understand the changes and challenges of the GDC's Enhanced CPD requirements.

Understand the value of a Personal Development Plan based on reflection, feedback and appraisal
