PERIO HANDS-ON Course (OX251018)

Peter Galgut qualified as a dentist in 1971, and gained an MSc with distinction in Periodontology at UCH in 1983. Subsequently he obtained the MRD (Membership in Restorative Dentistry) and also the MFGDP from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He was awarded an MPhil in acknowledgement of his research in biomaterials and wound healing and later a PhD for his thesis on the uses and abuses of statistics in Clinical Trials. In addition, he is a trained Homeopath and Acupuncturist, and he is an accredited Expert Witness. In 2010, he was the winner of both of the most prestigious awards by the British Dental Health Foundation: Dentist of the Year (South) (Equivalent to England), and UK National Dentist of the Year.

Dr Peter Galgut is a practicing a Periodontist in North West London (England) and a World renowned Lecturer. He has published over 120 research papers and he has written a text book on Periodontics (Periodontics: Current Concepts and Treatment Strategies: ISBN 1-85317-981-7). He has also recently launched a website offering help and advice in the management of periodontal conditions for colleagues who do not have a local periodontist. The course consists of initial lectures in the morning and practical afternoon sessions and is intended for Dentists, Dental Hygienists and Dental Therapists.

09:00 - 09:30: Registration/refreshments.  The educational programme starts at 09:30.

09:30 – 12:30: Lecture

12:30 – 13:30: Lunch

13:30 – 17:00: Lecture and practical

17:00: Close

There will be short refreshment breaks during both the morning and afternoon sessions and lunch also provided. Please advise course tutor of any dietary needs at least 2 weeks prior to the course amanda.evans@hee.nhs.uk

1. To summarise current thinking in root surface debridement techniques.

2.To demonstrate and give practical advice on effective root surface debridement in clinical practice.

1. To gain new skills in the management of non-surgical periodontal therapy.

1. Demonstrate confidence through updating and improving delegates mechanical debridement techniques.

2. Recognise new designs in instruments and techniques to improve delegates clinical efficiency.

3. To identify the tools to achieve improved treatment outcomes and more efficient management of periodontal diseases for their patients.
