This course is also suitable for other dentists who are new to the NHS, dentists returning to NHS practice, and any dental professional interested in learning more about the featured topics. Requirements of the GDC and CQC will be met by this course. |

| Objectives | 1. To discuss infection risk reduction. 2. To examine the HTM 01-05 guidance document and discuss how key environmental legislation applies to dentistry. 3. To describe the control of Legionallea infection in the dental practice. 4. To discuss the safe management of healthcare waste in the dental sector as specified in the HTM 01-07 guidance document. 5. To cover the effective use of antimicrobials, including antibiotics, in children, young people and adults. |
| Learning outcomes | Following this course learners should be able to: 1. Demonstrate recognition of effective measures to manage the risk of physical, chemical and microbiological contamination in the practice of dentistry. 2. Outline essential and best quality requirements of the HTM 01-05 guidelines, assess own practice level of compliance and identify areas for improvement. 3. Outline effective strategies for safely maintaining dental waterlines. 4. Summarise the key issues relating to waste disposal in dental practice, assess own practice level of compliance and identify areas for improvement. 5. Demonstrate recognition of contemporary approaches to antimicrobial management and bacterial resistance reduction. |
