Aims

Overall aim:

To achieve a clean and safe environment for employees and patients.

Specific aims:

1. To manage the health, safety and welfare of employees whilst at work

2. To extend duty of care to patients and others on premises.

Objectives

1. To provide an overview of health and safety in the dental practice.

2. To discuss an employer’s roles and responsibilities including CQC Regulation 12: Safe care and treatment.

3. To consider common hazards in the dental practice environment and how to assess the risks.

4. To describe the legal documentation required in relation to health and safety.

Learning outcomes

Following this course learners should be able to:

1. Recognise and discuss the health and safety laws and regulations which apply to own workplace.

2. Outline effective strategies to keep people safe in the dental practice environment.

3. Identify common hazards in the practice environment and put sensible measures in place to control them, and make sure they stay controlled.

4. Complete the basic paperwork required to meet health and safety obligations.
