| Aims | Overall aim: To improve the predictability of dental crowns. Specific aims: 1. To increase practitioners’ skills in preparing teeth for crowns. 2. To provide practitioners with an opportunity to practice clinical skills. 3. To increase practitioners’ confidence. |
| Objectives | 1. To summarise the principles of care planning and design in the provision of crowns, and examine the advantages and disadvantage of different types of crowns. 2. To describe and demonstrate effective tooth preparation techniques for full and partial coverage crowns using model teeth. 3. To describe and demonstrate different impression and temporisation techniques using model teeth. 4. To identify common clinical problems, and provide information about avoiding failures in crown work. |
| Learning outcomes | Following this course learners should be able to: 1. Recognise and describe the criteria for success/failure in crown work, and develop an appropriate care plan. 2. Demonstrate competence in preparing anterior and posterior teeth for full and partial coverage crowns. 3. Demonstrate competence in taking impressions and temporising teeth prepared for crowns using a variety of materials and techniques. 4. Outline strategies for meeting patient expectations and managing the risk of failures in crown work. |
