DescriptionThis evening is entirely devoted to Dental Nurses and Student Dental Nurses. The fourth of these monthly meetings for Dental Nurses in the south region Ox/Bucks/Berks/Hamps/I.O.W) will be delivered via Webinar. 'My lips are sealed.......except when it comes to LIP CANCER -a guide to its incidence & prevention'. There will be an hour's CPD in which our speaker Ali Lowe will speak on Lip Cancer and the 'Fit Lip' campaign. She will also talk about her role and the career pathway from dental nurse to Dental Hygienist. Following this will be an open forum and peer review discussion chaired by our guest speaker and the Tutor facilitating.

Ali Lowe RDH, Dip Ed, Bsc (hons) is an award-winning dental hygienist based in Cardiff and has worked in both private & NHS practice as well as the Orthodontic department of Cardiff Dental School. Her interest in helping patients both before and after cancer diagnosis began following enrolment on Victoria Wilsons Smile Revolution course and the development of Fit Lip UK - a campaign aimed at encouraging people to wear SPF lip balm in order to protect their lips, prevent lip cancer & keep their mouth healthy. Ali volunteers for the Mouth Cancer Foundation, has had several articles published in both the dental and public press, is actively involved in the BSDHT and is on the publications committee of Dental Health (the hygienist & therapist journal). Ali is fervent about raising awareness of mouth cancer (in particular lip cancer), its side effects and the importance of continuing care.

*This webinar is suitable for Dental Nurses, will be delivered via MS Teams and an email with joining instructions and a short a guide to remote learning will be sent to you at least 24 hours before the course starts. Please log in early to check your IT supports MS Teams and check that your microphone is off but your camera is on (you can upload a background of your choice for privacy) signing in using your Deanery registered name helps us to confirm your attendance. Logging onto to Webinar will be from 18:20. Aims

The forum has been set up to give dental nurses an ability to network and have support for wellbeing plus be empowered to progress and further their career.

Objectives

Identify key anatomical features of the lips

• Be able to recognise what lips look like in optimal health

• Recognise what a deviation from health looks like

• Identify the ways to reduce the risk of lip cancer and other lip conditions

Learning outcomes

Delegates will be able to recognise anatomical lip features, healthy lips and know when to question a deviation from the norm and give advice on risk factors that could affect lip health.
