DescriptionThis one day seminar has been designed in response to the increasing demand for the provision of conscious sedation in dental practice. It is aimed at dental nurses who already have experience in caring for patients receiving procedural sedation and who would like to update their knowledge and practical skills. The aims are:

Aims
  1. The acquisition and understanding of core knowledge relevant to the practice of oral, intravenouse (IV) and inhalational sedation in dentistry.
  2. To promote an awareness and understanding of the importance of: 1) sedation in the management of anxious patients 2) communication skills in the management of patients requiring conscious sedation.
  3. To review the role of the dental nurse in: 1) the assessment of adult patients who require conscious sedation 2) administration of sedative agents 3) monitoring of sedated patients 4) assessing the fitness for discharge of patients who have received IV sedation
  4. To understand, recognise and manage sedation related complications; to update dental nurses on current regulations and National Guidelines.
