DescriptionThe aim of this course is to assist the dental professional to update their practical basic life support skill, (which should be at least annually, as recommended by the Resuscitation Council (UK) Standards). This hands-on course will focus on CPR techniques and management of the ill patient. It should complement practice-based training, not replace it.
Additional information



1. To review and up-date delegates on the UK Resuscitation Council guidelines in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Immediate Life support (IML)

2. To discuss and demonstrate cardiac massage and rescue breaths on a manikin and give delegates the chance to practise
3. To discuss and demonstrate how to use the different types of equipment in a practice emergency kit and give delegates the chance to practise.


This course is intended for the entire practice team : Dental Nurses, Dentists, Dental Hygienists, Dental Therapists, Dental Receptionists

Sonia Jones RDH CFET, GDC number 5754 is a Dental Hygienist in Torquay. She delivers CPD, including BLS and AED skills, to dental care professionals across the country. She also examines for the NEBDN and NCFE.

Aims
  1. Explain how to perform an urgent care assessment of an ill patient, so as to provide initial treatment or refer with urgency
  2. Identify the range of skills and knowledge to conduct cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  3. Recognise and demonstrate theoretical competence in conducting BLS and ILS
  4. Outline effective strategies for managing medical emergencies in the primary care dental setting, so as to deal quickly and effectively with them
