| Description | The aim of this course is to promote dementia awareness and the special knowledge, approach and skills required of the dental team when supporting people with dementia. |
| Additional information | Objectives: • To familiarise learners with the clinical features and impact of dementia over the course of the illness • To summarise the dental implications of dementia • To familiarise learners with the key issues relating to risk guidance for people with dementia • To examine how relevant legislation including the Mental Capacity Act 2005, the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) and the Care Act 2014, applies to people with dementia. This course is suitable for the Entire Practice Team. Jo Russell RDN Cert DPM Cert Ed MIfL LCGI, GDC 109492 - Director Oracle Practice Business Solutions, has worked in dentistry since 1986, including 7 years in the Royal Naval Dental Service, 2 years as an Area Manager for a large corporate looking after 16 practices across London and the South, and as a tutor, assessor and internal verifier for dental nurses undertaking formal qualification. Latterly she has spent much of her time delivering the level 4 Diploma in Dental Practice Management and business consultancy services for CQC compliance. Jo is a popular and enthusiastic speaker about all aspects of the business of dentistry and continuing professional development for the whole team. Annabelle Vaughan is a solicitor specialising in Mental Capacity and Vulnerable Adults. She leads the Court of Protection Team at Coffin Mew Solicitors where her work normally involves making decisions on behalf of clients with brain injuries, mental health issues and degenerative illnesses such as Alzheimer’s disease. These decisions often involve health and welfare matters as wide ranging as dental treatment to access to psychological services. Annabelle frequently meets with health professionals and local authorities to discuss care and welfare issues of her clients. |
