DescriptionDental professionals working with children, young people and adults should receive child protection and safeguarding adults training every 3 years as a minimum. The aim of this course is to meet these requirements and clarify the roles and responsibilities of the whole dental team in promoting the safety and well-being of children and vulnerable adults at risk of abuse. Requirements of the GDC and CQC will be met by this level 2 competence course. The course will also focus on UK employment legislation and contracts for dentists.

• To explain child and adult maltreatment, abuse and neglect, who may be vulnerable and what to do about it
• To explain the potential impact of a parent/carer’s physical and mental health on the well-being and development of a child or young person, including possible speech, language and communication needs
• To explain child/adult safeguarding legislation and information sharing, including multi-agency working, Data Protection Act, common law of confidentiality and the Caldicott principles
• To provide training in best practice safeguarding record-keeping, and explain data protection issues relating to information sharing for safeguarding purposes
• To explain UK employment legislation.

This course is one of a number of courses designed to provide an introduction to NHS dentistry and is essential for dentists who are undertaking Foundation Training by Equivalence. This course is also suitable for dentists who are new to the NHS and dentists returning to NHS practice. Other dentists are also invited to attend this essential one day course.

Jo Russell RDN Cert DPM Cert Ed MIfL LCGI, GDC 109492 - Director Oracle Practice Business Solutions, has worked in dentistry since 1986, including 7 years in the Royal Naval Dental Service, 2 years as an Area Manager for a large corporate looking after 16 practices across London and the South, and as a tutor, assessor and internal verifier for dental nurses undertaking formal qualification. Latterly she has spent much of her time delivering the level 4 Diploma in Dental Practice Management and business consultancy services for CQC compliance. Jo is a popular and enthusiastic speaker about all aspects of the business of dentistry and continuing professional development for the whole team.

Aims
