| Description | The overall aim of this course is to build an understanding of governance in dentistry, the regulatory framework of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and selection criteria for orthodontic referral. |
| Additional information | Objectives: • To provide information about the standards and behaviours that apply to dentists and primary care – professional, regulatory, NHS, legal and local standards, clinical and professional conduct - and the implications of non-compliance • To explore the current systems and structures of accountability and governance for health in the NHS in England • To provide information on key issues surrounding the CQC’s role in regulating the dental profession, and the implications of not meeting the requirements of the regulations • To explain the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN) and selection criteria for orthodontic referral. This course is one of a number of courses designed to provide an introduction to NHS dentistry and is essential for dentists who are undertaking Foundation Training by Equivalence. This course is also suitable for dentists who are new to the NHS and dentists returning to NHS practice. Other dentists are also invited to attend this essential one day course. Verna Easterby-Smith BDS MSc, GDC 56097 is the Clinical Commissioning Lead (Dental) NHS England (South) - Wessex, a Specialist Clinical Lead for Elderly and Domiciliary Care - Solent NHS Trust, and the Dental Tutor - Winchester and Basingstoke, Wessex Deanery, Health Education England. Verna qualified at the Royal London Hospital in 1981, obtained her MSc in Gerodontics in 1986 and is on the GDC Specialist lists for Prosthodontics and Special Care Dentistry. She completed her Coach/Mentor training through the Wessex Deanery in 2014 and has worked as a locum practice inspector for CQC. Ruth Evans BDS Wales MOrth RCS Eng FDS RCS Edin MScD Wales DOrth RCS Eng, GDC 53099, is the Lead Consultant in Southampton for the regional cleft lip and palate service. Her particular interests are orthognathic surgery, complex orthodontic cases and diagnostic services for general dental and medical practitioners. |
