| Description | The overall aim of this course is to improve learners’ ability to describe in appropriate detail current contractual models and the clinical pathway. Specific aims are to build understanding of the NHS General Dental Services Contract in England and enable learners to maintain best practice in record-keeping and documentation. |
| Additional information | Objectives: • To explain the structure, principles, rules and regulations associated with working as a dentist in the NHS • To investigate the charging structure relating to treatment provided for patients in general practice, including measurement of dental activity through Courses of Treatment and Units of Dental Activity in NHS dentistry, private fee-per-item and capitation schemes • To discuss the clinical pathway • To provide training in maintaining best practice in record-keeping and documentation and discuss recent developments in information governance policy and practice. This course is one of a number of courses designed to provide an introduction to NHS dentistry and is essential for dentists who are undertaking Foundation Training by Equivalence. This course is also suitable for dentists who are new to the NHS and dentists returning to NHS practice. Other dentists are also invited to attend this essential one day course. Richard Snoad BDS Dund MGDS RCS Edin FDS RCS Edin MSc Lond, GDC 54159 – Specialist in Periodontics, spent 10 years in general dental practice before joining the Royal Army Dental Corps, retiring from the Army in 2001 to become Head of Periodontics for ORA Dental Group, London. Since 2003, Richard has combined specialist practice with teaching and research. He is also a medico-legal expert in periodontology; professional panel member for the GDC’s Dental Complaints Service - private patients; editorial board member of Preventive Dentistry magazine and board member for the Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK). Duncan McJarrow BDS LDS RCS (Eng) FFGDP (UK) MGDS RCS (Eng), GDC 60868, is a Clinical Adviser NHS BSA Dental Services and honorary clinical teacher Bristol Dental Hospital. He qualified from the Royal Dental Hospital in 1985 and worked in general practice for 5 years before serving in the Royal Navy 1990 – 2009. During his service he was a Vocational Trainer, completed Loan Service to the Sultan of Brunei’s armed forces and served as Senior Dental Surgeon HMS Nelson. Duncan was also a Dental Reference Officer NHS BSA 2009 – 2010 and holds the FGDP (UK) Certificate in Appraisal of Dental Practices. |
