| Description | The aim of this course is to develop the learners’ ability to recognise, assess and manage medical emergencies in the primary care dental setting (adults and paediatrics), so as to deal quickly with uncommon but potentially tragic events. This theory course meets the annual GDC requirements for CPD in medical emergencies and follows the UK Resuscitation Council guidelines in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Immediate Life Support (ILS). |
| Additional information | Objectives: • To provide training in how to perform an urgent care assessment of a sick patient • To provide training in basic and immediate life support for medical emergencies in the primary care dental setting • To outline the emergency drugs and equipment that should be held by dental surgeries, and their uses • To explain the team approach to medical emergencies • To outline procedures to minimise the risk of medical emergencies in the primary care dental setting. This course is suitable for the entire practice team. Richard Young is the Resuscitation Lead for the Royal Marsden Hospital, London. His clinical background is intensive and critical care nursing. He was lead resuscitation officer on the Isle of Wight before moving to London. He is an adult and paediatric advanced life support instructor for the Resuscitation Council of UK. |
