| Description | Dental photography is essential in record keeping and it is important for all members of the dental team to be appropriately trained and for each practice to have the appropriate equipment. This practical course will provide an overview of the applications of dental photography and equipment, and will highlight issues of consent and duty of care. |
| Additional information | All participants must if possible : •Bring a suitable digital camera. (with a macro lens and ring flash) •A camera will be available for participants who do not have a suitable camera. This course is suitable for the entire practice team. Otto Sparrius BDS MSc FHEA, GDC 67789 is a clinical and academic tutor at the University of Portsmouth Dental Academy. He qualified with a BDS from the University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa) in 1978 and completed his MSc (Enamel and Dentine bonding agents) in 1989. Otto has publications in internationally recognised journals and has presented papers at local and international conferences including a paper at the FDI conference in Hong Kong on Medical Hypnotherapy. Most recently (2014) he presented a paper on local anaesthetic training at the International Conference for Dental Hygiene in Cape Town. Otto worked in his own dental practices in Johannesburg and East London (South Africa) where he was also actively involved in South African Dental Association. He moved to the UK in April 2002 where he worked in various UK dental practices and continued his involvement in professional organisations, including the British Dental Association. Since 2009 Otto has been employed as a Dental Tutor at the University of Portsmouth Dental Academy and as an Associated Dental Tutor, King’s College Dental Institute. He is a clinical tutor for Dental Hygiene/Therapy students and final year Dental students. He lectures in Radiography, Dental Photography, Dental Materials, Professionalism and Clinical Practice. He has a particular interest in Minimal Intervention Dentistry. Otto has completed his Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education and is now a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Most recently he has started a Professional Doctorate in Medical Imaging at the University of Portsmouth Department of Radiography. Nikki Legg RDN NVQ 3 in Oral Health Care, GDC 143500, qualified in 2007. She has worked as a Dental Nurse in a variety of settings, including the NHS. For the past six years Nikki has worked at the University of Portsmouth Dental Academy where she provides direct chairside support to dental and hygiene/therapy students, mentors dental nurse students and supervises all aspects of the taking of radiographs on the live student clinics. She has the BDA qualification in Radiography, and extended duty qualifications in: The Application of Fluoride, Impression Taking, Clinical Photography, Rubber Dam Placement and Oral Health Education. Nikki has been the Clinical Photography Lead Nurse at the University for the last three years and has attained Level 1 qualifications in Digital Imaging and Image Manipulation. She is a keen photographer and works in her own studio and on location. Nikki is currently studying for a BSc in Health Science through the Open University. |
