Aims

For attendees to gain a better understanding of : - anticoagulant and antiplatelet medications and how they impact on the delivery of general dentistry - their potential to cause bleeding

Objectives

To identify from a patient’s medical history which patients are most likely to be taking medications likely to cause bleeding. To develop treatment regimes for patients to minimise the risk of having uncontrolled bleeding as a consequence of dental treatment. To know when to treat and when to refer appropriately.

Learning outcomes

Attendees will have the confidence to manage patients at risk of bleeding more appropriately and not need to refer onto specialised services as frequently (GDC C).

This presentation has been identified as fulfilling the Learning Objectives of the GDC (C) (C)“Maintenance and development of knowledge and skill within your field of practice”.
