DescriptionThis a full days lecture with some practical aspects given by Daljit Jagdef and Monica Lee at Wexham Post-Grad Centre. Daljit qualified in dentistry in 1996 from Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals and subsequently worked as an SHO in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery in Birmingham. She went on to complete her MFGDP in 1999 and started her MSc in Periodontolgy at King’s Dental Institute in the same year. Since completing the MSc program in 2001 Daljit has taught as a clinical demonstrator at King’s for 5 years and has limited her practice to Periodontics since 2005. As well as working in private practice accepting referrals, she is now involved in lecturing to dentists and hygienists. Daljit has a wide range of experience treating complex periodontal cases including crown lengthening, ridge augmentation, root coverage procedures, bone regeneration and multidisciplinary treatment planning. She attends courses both nationally and internationally to keep up to date with the treatment and advances in periodontology and network with fellow colleagues in her profession

Monica Lee BDS MFDS RCPS MSc MClinDent MRD RCS

Monica Monica taught on the undergraduate dental programme for 5 years, as a specialist clinical teacher at King’s College London and now continues to lecture and run courses in Periodontics in Cambridgeshire and surrounding areas.

She has published research articles in dental journals and has written a chapter in an undergraduate textbook “practical periodontics”, which has a second edition being published soon.

Monica qualified in 1997 from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital. She continued in hospital as a House Officer in paediatric dentistry and oral medicine, followed by a Senior House Officer role in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester and Worthing Hospital. She obtained her MFDS qualification from the Royal College of Surgeons before moving to Germany to work for the Ministry Of Defence (MOD) 

In 2004 Monica commenced the 4 year specialist training Programme in Periodontology at Guys, Kings and St Thomas’ Dental institute and obtained an MSc in Periodontology and then a merit in her Masters in Clinical Dentistry in Periodontology (MClinDent) and joined the specialist list in 2008 after completing her Master in Restorative Dentistry (MRD) from the Royal College of Surgeons.

Aims

Course Aim: Give an update on the current guidelines for periodontal diagnosis, classification and treatment

Objectives

· Describe any changes in the guidelines for periodontal disease management

· Demonstrate cases so the delegate can recognise differences in periodontal diseases

· Assess the delegates ability in recognising a periodontal case

Learning outcomes

· Show an ability to classify/treatment plan a periodontal case

· Implement new guidelines and identify the roles of different members of the team

· Assess their periodontal patients with greater confidence and communicate the risks/effectiveness of treatments
