Aims

This short bitesize webinar aims to explain the relevance of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA) to dentistry and help identify the key elements within the Act that impact on dental practice.

Objectives

These sessions are intended to create an understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA) as it relates to dentistry.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the sessions delegates will be in a position to identify the five core principles upon which the Act is built, understand how to assess a patient's capacity to consent to dental examination/treatment, making best interests decisions when the patient lacks capacity to consent and understanding the importance of advanced decisions to refuse treatment, and the role of Attorneys, Deputies and Independent Mental Capacity Advocates.
