DescriptionThis practical course will enable GDPs to enhance their knowledge of flap designs and suturing techniques used in minor oral surgery, including surgical removal of teeth, in general dental practice. Topics covered will include:

• Management of the medically compromised patient needing minor oral surgery
• Suture materials and techniques in minor oral surgery
• Effective local anaesthesia
• Hands-on training in flap design and suturing techniques
• Case selection.

Oral surgery techniques will be performed on Oral Surgery Jaw Models in the well-equipped Dental Simulation Suite, RHCH Education Centre. The course is run in an informal setting where questions and debate are actively encouraged. Delegates are also encouraged to bring radiographs of MOS referrals that ‘haven’t met the criteria for referral to secondary care’ and/or cases they would like to discuss with our speakers. Please ensure that all patient data is anonymised.

This course is intended for GDPs.

Latha Davda Stat Exam UK, FDS RCS, MSurg Dent, MSc, FHEA, Adjunct Visiting Professor MCODS, India, GDC 81473 has been involved in the teaching of oral surgery to dental undergraduates for many years, both in the UK and India, and has worked in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Departments throughout the UK. She is a Dental Tutor/Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth Dental Academy, an examiner for the LDS RCS (Eng) examinations, and owns a dental practice in Eastleigh, Hampshire, with her husband Sanjay. Latha practices all aspects of dentistry with a special interest in surgical dentistry, sedation and dental implants.

Sanjay Davda DDS (Dar es Salaam) FDS RCS (Eng), GDC 81635, graduated in 1989 from the University of Dar es Salaam and has worked in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Departments throughout the UK since 1990. He is currently a Clinical Teacher in Oral Surgery at King’s College London Dental Institute and owns a dental practice with his wife, Latha. Sanjay’s special interests are aesthetic dentistry, implants, oral surgery and conscious sedation, accepting referrals from other dental practitioners for treatment under conscious sedation. Sanjay holds Certificates in Conscious Sedation (BUOLD) and Implant Dentistry. He is fluent in 2 Indian languages and Swahili and conducts Free Dental Camps every year in villages across Southern India.
