DescriptionThis course will cover the principles of justification, optimisation and limitation to satisfy the IRMER requirement for radiography qualified staff. It also meets UK GDC verifiable CPD requirements in radiography and radiation protection.

Ian Hamilton MSc BDS, GDC 68870 – Lecturer in dental radiography, radiation physics and radiation safety, is a dentist with a background in radiation protection who, after gaining his MSc in Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology, was appointed as the Subject Matter Expert for the Defence Dental Services. Ionising radiation and Core of Knowledge training delivered by Ian, at undergraduate and postgraduate level across England and Scotland, is always entertaining and extremely informative.

The Postgraduate Centre is called the “Trust Education Centre” (TEC), and is located on Craven Road, adjacent to the multi-story car park, just North of the main Royal Berkshire Hospital entrance, and close to the junction with London Road. It’s a two story, flat-roofed sixties-style building. The TEC entrance is to the rear of the building. Please don’t try to use the old door (that faces St. Andrew’s Church) because entry is by Trust card swipe only.

Traffic in Reading can be really heavy, so please allow plenty of time for your journey, and consider using public transport. If you are parking in the multi storey Car Park, the cost is £12.00 for the day and the ticket machine will only take cash.
Alternatively Reading Station is about a 15 minute walk away, or a short taxi journey.

If you do have special any dietary requirements, please let us know at least 2 weeks in advance and we will try to accommodate you. There is always a limited amount of vegetarian food, but it would also be helpful to know if this is your preference in advance. It is essential to let us know in advance please if you can only eat the vegetarian option.
