DescriptionA course designed to help the FD apply both theoretical and practical periodontology, learned from Dental School, to the surgery situation for the best interests and treatment of the patient. Particular emphasis is placed on providing this treatment on a NHS basis.

Sarovi Davda qualified from United Medical and Dental Schools, London in 2002. After her vocational training, she went on to become a Senior House Officer in the Maxilofacial Surgery unit at Luton Dunstable Hospital. During her time there she completed her MFDS examinations and won the annual Junior Papers Day, awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons. She has spent the last seven years practicing at Smilecare and divides her time between general practice, teaching and has completed a part-time MSc in Conservative dentistry at The Eastman Dental Institute. She has always had a keen interest in periodontology and, having attended many post graduate courses on the subject, chose a periodontics special module as part of her masters programe.

Aims
  1. Evaluate the periodontal tissues and diagnose a patient’s periodontal condition.
  2. Establish a prognosis for individual periodontal involved teeth and inform the patient of this.
  3. Prescribe, deliver and monitor the use of antimicrobial agents where appropriate to aid the treatment of periodontal diseases.
  4. Is able to identify correctly and demonstrate understanding of the aetiology of a patient’s periodontal problems and the ability to educate the patient in these matters and the prevention of disease.
  5. The role of periodontal surgery in the management of gingival overgrowth and advanced periodontal disease.
