Aims
  1. • Introduction to Practical Minor Oral Surgery for GDPs • The objective of this practical course is to provide information and training in minor oral surgery activities relevant to the GDP.
  2. Overview of minor oral surgery in general dental practice • • Management of the medically compromised patient needing minor oral surgery • • Effective local anaesthesia • • Simulated oral surgery procedures on models • • Hands-on training in flap design, bone removal and suturing on models • • Case selection.
  3. • Have studied the range of minor oral surgical procedures that can be safely undertaken in general dental practice in order to provide the full range of primary clinical dental activities safely • Be able to describe the management of medically compromised patients needing minor oral surgery in general dental practice to reduce the number of referrals.
  4. • Have performed oral surgery procedures on models including instrumentation, flap design, bone removal, tooth sectioning, extraction and suturing, and be able to carry them out with confidence in the clinical setting • Have received training in effective local anaesthesia for minor oral surgery in order to improve the patient experience
