DescriptionThe programme provides the underpinning theoretical and practical knowledge and skills required to support dentists and other dental registrants in difficulty. `it will bring together an understanding of coaching, mentoring, supervision and assessment along with practical tools and a process to manage the supportive environment. The course is intensive and delegates will work with the tutors and each other on practical exercises, scenarios and case studies to understand factors that lead to poor performance. The final day is an assessment day which includes written exercises, work with an actor and report writing.

This course is open to all dental registrants.

After qualifying in the early 80’s, Dr Janine Brooks spent her whole clinical career in Community Dentistry, the last 17 years as a Clinical Director. Her specialist clinical area was treating special needs patients and general anaesthesia.
In July 2002, She was appointed as Caldicott Guardian to the NHS Information Authority where she had overall responsibility for the national health databases. In April 2003 She became the first dental adviser to the National Clinical Assessment Authority (NCAS) and the Associate Director (Dentistry) in February 2005.

Currently Janine is Associate Postgraduate Dental Dean Health Education Thames Valley and Wessex, an educational inspector for the GDC, non-executive director of CDS CIC, social enterprise, and lead clinical tutor for the Law and Ethics module Bristol University BUOLD programme.

In addition, Janine runs her own coaching and training consultancy, Dentalia, providing coaching for leadership to dental professionals and a broad range of education and training topics to include reflective practice, ethical practice, leadership skills, professionalism, under performance and communication skills. She is also a partner in the Dental Coaching Academy offering leadership skills for dental professionals.

Janine received an MBE for services to dentistry in the New Years Honours List 2007, and was awarded a Fellowship of the Faculty of General Dental Practice by election in March 2010.
