Sandra White (60512) BDS, FDSRCS (Lond), MPH, FDSRCS (DPH), FFPH, MBA, PGCmedE
graduated from Manchester in 1985. She has worked in maxillo- facial units in Manchester, London and Bedford, as one of the first salaried GDPs in Rugby and as a GDP in Milton Keynes.
Most of her clinical career was spent in special needs CDS services in Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire, treating medically compromised, inpatient learning disability and mental health patients, the homeless, travellers, domiciliary patients and nervous children. After gaining a Diploma in Conscious Sedation from Guys she specialised in adults with dental anxiety and dental phobias.
Following completion of specialist training Sandra became a consultant in Dental Public Health for Buckinghamshire PCTs in 2005, and latterly for Northamptonshire and MK working with commissioning teams to restructure oral surgery services, and set up restorative services. She worked collaborately with LDCs to set up dental appraisal for GDPs. Sandra has also been Deputy Director of Public Health working across Local authority and the PCT leading a team to deliver on a number of generic public health issues.
Employed by South Central SHA , she was responsible for the feasibility and Consultation into water fluoridation in Southampton with considerable media coverage.
She has played a role in BDA, BASCD, and is an honorary lecturer for Birmingham dental School. She is a TPD, a lead trainer and an examiner for ISFE in dental public health.
She is currently the Regional Consultant for the South for PHE and has a national role as NHS England liaison for PHE. She sits on the National Dental Commissioning Group, Local Professional Network national steering group, the contract reform evidence and evaluation group, and the Health Education England Advisory Group.

Dr Satnam Moonga (GDC number 68466) Qualified in 1992 from Kings College London . He worked in hospital maxillo facial departments for a couple of years and then went into practice. He is a partner and principal in two combined NHS practices in Buckinghamshire, one of which is a new contract pilot practice.
He was a Dental Practice Adviser for Buckinghamshire Primary Care Trust for 5 years and has been a Dental Foundation (Vocational) Trainer for over 12 years . He teaches dental undergraduates at Kings College London as well as in his practice.

For the last 6 years he has been a GDC fitness to practice panel member.

He has recently been appointed Chair of Thames Valley Dental Local Professional Network

Dr Chantelle Fatania graduated in dentistry from Birmingham in 2006. She has worked in a range of dental practices in primary care and within the salaried dental service in London and Oxford. She was awarded an MSc in dental public health and diploma in dental public health in 2010, before commencing specialist training in the Thames Valley in 2013. She is currently working on projects which support the work of the Area Team in Thames Valley.

Aims
  1. Gain an understanding of the principles of critical appraisal.
  2. Gain practical experience of using the CASP tool to appraise the following types of papers: a systematic review; a randomised control trial and a cohort study.
  3. Gain an overview of dental commissioning and related policy documents. Describe the NHS England National Dental Commissioning Group and its current work streams.
  4. Know about dental commissioning arrangements and functions in Thames Valley, including the role of Local Professional Networks.
