| Description | This evening is entirely devoted to Dental Nurses and Student Dental Nurses. The third of quarterly meetings for Dental Nurses in the BOB (Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxon) area. Preventative oral health advice is the topic for this evening. |
| Additional information | The Aim is; To encourage DCPs to use the ˜Delivering Better Oral Health; an evidence based toolkit for prevention" so that they can be confident in giving key preventive oral health advice to patients. Followed by a Forum chaired by our Guest Speaker Course intended for: Dental Nurses and Student Dental Nurses. Jane Lewis qualified from New Cross Hospital in London as a Dental Therapist in 1978. She has studied throughout her career gaining relevant qualifications in oral and general health promotion for example, Advanced Certificate in Health Promotion and Health Education, and the Diploma in Dental Health Education. Her interest in teaching and education is reflected in appropriate qualifications from the Certificate in Education, and the Further and Adult Education Teacher Training Certificates Levels I and II (7306, 7307). In 2002, she gained a B. A. at Oxford Brookes in Post Compulsory Education (First Class Hons), her dissertation was titled “The provision of, and the participation in, Continuing Professional Development and Dental Therapists.” In 2006 she successfully completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education, and is a Fellow member of the Higher Education Teaching Academy. In 2010 she graduated from Portsmouth University with a Masters degree in Education. Jane is a member of the British Association of Dental Therapists, having served a five year term of office as secretary. She is a member of the National Oral Health Promotion Group and served on the committee as the journal editor. She is also a member of the National Teachers of Oral Therapy and Hygiene Group. Her early clinical career as a Dental Therapist was spent with City and East Area Health Authority in the East End of London, and from 1981 to present day in Berkshire CDS, where she now works part time. Currently she co ordinates the Oral Health Promotion Team in Berkshire, and has recently completed the Public Health Practitioners programme leading to registration on the Public Health Register. Part of her week is spent as a Dental Therapy Tutor at the School for Professionals Complementary to Dentistry at Portsmouth University. In her spare time Jane runs a local Brownie Pack, enjoys horse riding, spending time with her two donkeys and ballroom dancing. |
