DescriptionThe format of this study days is an initial short presentation on periodontal diagnosis followed by group work (working in groups of 3 or 4) on cases with diagnostic dilemmas or problems. A second, slightly longer, presentation on treatment options is followed by group work and discussion on more complex cases.
Additional informationSufficient photographs and radiographs of treated cases are provided for each group. A detailed workbook is provided for participants. Most of the day is spent in discussion and the topics covered vary, depending on the direction of the discussion.

Aims
  1. To appreciate the range of periodontal conditions that require treatment, and those that do not; to understand the principal aetiological and risk factors involved in the development of periodontal diseases
  2. To understand the importance of screening and assessment for periodontal disease in general dental practice
  3. To appreciate the range of treatment options available for periodontal diseases To understand when new treatment techniques, such as regeneration, can be used
  4. To understand the relevance of antimicrobials in periodontal treatment; to be able to undertake long-term treatment planning in complex cases
