DescriptionAn initial presentation on periodontal aetiology and diagnosis, including discussion on the fundamental role of bacterial biofilms, is followed by group work (working in groups of 3 or 4) on cases with diagnostic dilemmas or problems. There is then discussion on risk factors, illustrated by further group work and discussion of more complex cases. At some stage during the day there will be an interactive exercise on the assessment of prognosis for individual teeth. The course programme is designed to be highly flexible; most of the day is spent in discussion and the topics covered will vary, depending on the direction of the discussion.
Additional informationThe course should enable participants to:
1. Diagnose periodontal diseases accurately and effectively.
2. Use BPE as a fast and effective screening tool.
3. Use periodontal probing more effectively.
4. Assess patients’ level of risk for periodontitis accurately.
