DescriptionThis Full day IRMER course will satisfy the requirements of the IR(ME)R 2000 Regulations , as specified in the 2001 Department of Health's Guidence Notes for Dental Practitioners, and will provide training to meet the GDC requirement that all dentists and radiography qualified dental care professionals should carry out 5 hours of verifiable continuing professional development in Radiography and radiation Protection as part of their 5 yearly recertification cycle.

Aims
  1. Understand the requirements of the Ionising Radiation Regulations 19999, the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure)Regulations 2000 and associated guidence
  2. Revise the nature of and specific hazards associated with ionising radiation in order that all members of the Dental team understand the need to protect both themselves and their patients.
  3. Understand the principles of radiation protection.
  4. Revise the Selection Criteria for Dental Radiography as contained within the FGDP (UK) Guidelines so that both dentists and DCPs understand the need for justification of every exposure and specifically which working practices are no longer supported –such as the routine screening of all new patients with DPTs
