| Description | This HANDS-ON course will cover aspects of minor oral surgery relevant to the GDP including: * Overview of minor oral surgery in general dental practice * Management of the medically compromised patient needing minor oral surgery * Effective local anaesthesia * Simulated oral surgery procedures on models * Hands-on training in flap design, bone removal and suturing on models * Case selection. Oral surgery practices will be performed on Oral Surgery Jaw Models in the well equipped Dental Simulation Suite, RHCH Education Centre. The course is run in an informal setting where questions and debate are actively encouraged. Delegates are encouraged to bring radiographs of MOS referrals that 'haven't met the criteria for referral to secondary care' and/or cases they would like to discuss with our speakers. Please ensure that all patient data is anonymised. This course is one of a number of courses designed to provide an introduction to NHS dentistry and is essential for dentists who are undertaking Vocational Training by Assessment. This course is also suitable for dentists who are new to the NHS and dentists returning to NHS practice. Other dentists can book to attend if places remain available 14 days in advance of the course. | Additional information | xillofacial Surgery. She came to the UK on a prestigious T.C. White Scholarship, awarded by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow. Latha has been involved in the teaching of oral surgery to dental undergraduates for many years, both in the UK and India, and has worked in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Departments throughout the UK. She was a Clinical Teacher in Oral Surgery at the Royal London Dental Hospital, is currently teaching part-time at the University of Portsmouth Dental Academy and is an examiner for the LDS RCS (Eng) examinations. She is adjunct Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, Manipal University, India. Latha owns a dental practice in Eastleigh, Hampshire, with her husband Sanjay and practices all aspects of dentistry with a special interest in surgical dentistry, sedation and dental implants. Sanjay Davda DDS (Dar es Salaam) FDS RCS (Eng), GDC 81635, graduated in 1989 from the University of Dar es Salaam and has worked in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Departments throughout the UK since 1990. He is currently a Clinical Teacher in Oral Surgery at King’s College London Dental Institute and owns a dental practice with his wife, Latha. Sanjay’s special interests are aesthetic dentistry, implants, oral surgery and conscious sedation, accepting referrals from other dental practitioners for treatment under conscious sedation. Sanjay holds Certificates in Conscious Sedation (BUOLD) and Implant Dentistry. He is fluent in 2 Indian languages and Swahili and conducts Free Dental Camps annually in villages in Southern India. |
