| Additional information | Identifying infectious hazards encountered in dental practice, bacteria, viruses and prions. Measures that can be adopted to manage identified risks in practice and compliance with HTM 01-05 Looking at managing the risk of transmission of infectious agents in the dental surgery. Enabling team members to risk assess their own practices and apply the latest standards (HTM 01-05) of Infection Control in their own surgeries. This course is suitable for the entire dental team. Martin Fulford originally trained as a microbiologist and spent 13 years as a practical medical microbiologist. Retrained as a dentist in his mid thirties and then spent 17 years working as a general dental practitioner in the UK. During this time he managed to combine clinical dentistry with research, mainly in the field of infection control. He has recently completed a thesis entitled: ‘Microbial Contamination of Dental Unit Water Systems in General Dental Practice’. Although now retired from clinical practice he is still active in research and is currently part of a team investigating the possibility of the transmission of vCJD via contaminated dental instruments. Martin is also a scientific adviser, with a particular interest in infection control, to the British Dental Association. |
