DescriptionThis course is one of a number of courses designed to provide an introduction to NHS dentistry, essential for dentists who are undertaking vocational training by assessment.
Additional informationThe course is also suitable for Dentists who are new to the NHS or are returning to NHS dental practice.

A day course of presentations and hands-on sessions using pigs jaws/models in order to increase the confidence and knowledge of the participants to successfully undertake minor oral surgery procedures within their own practice settings.
The course should enable participants to:
• Choose appropriate surgical cases for treatment
• Carry out extraction of simple impacted third molars
• Carry out extraction of retained roots
• Carry out apicectomies
* Improve general surgical skills

Catherine Sternberg, Consultant Oral Surgeon , Royal South Hants Hospital, Lead Consultant Oral Surgeon at the Royal South Hants Hospital, Catherine took over the running of the Oral Surgery service in September 2009.

Simon Wright BSc BDS MFDS RCS (Eng) MBChB, GDC 74594, GMC 7047265
Consultant in Oral Surgery at Royal South Hants Hospital, Southampton.
Simon special interest is in wisdom teeth surgery and assessment with CBCT, bone grafting and sinus elevation for dental implants. He is involved as an Educational Supervisor for the Dental Foundation trainees and examiner for the MJDF examination at the Royal College of Surgeon of England.
