Description(GDC recommended CPD core subjects). This training can be used as part of your practice evidence to demonstrate compliance with some of the areas in the following CQC outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17& 21
Additional informationThe course will cover three specific areas.
* Legal and ethical issues (First half of the morning)
* Complaints handling (Second half of the morning)
* Basic radiography (Afternoon session) (N.B. This section is not the IRMER training for people who take x-rays, but will count towards the 5 GDC compulsory hours for DCP's who do not take x-rays).

The course will update DCP's in legal & ethical issues, complaints handling and basic radiography.
It will cover the different types of 'documentation' required with the above and ensure that DCP's understand their own responsibilities & the consequences of not following legislation. It is a DCP's own responsibility to ensure that they are adhering to legal and ethical issues and forms part of the requirements of GDC registration. The course will also cover how to handle complaints effectively,the correct procedures and the guidelines and requirements.
The course will deliver basic dental radiography techniques, quality assurance and health and safety relating to dental radiography. Look at the DCP¡¦s role and responsibilities while covering equipment and films. IR(ME)R regulations will feature throughout the course.

Legal and ethical issues - TO INCLUDE:
* Properties of x-rays & Digital & Manual X-ray techniques
* Quality assurance
* Outline the main components of Ionising Radiation Regulations IRR1999& IR(ME)R 2000
* What we are looking for on x-rays
* The faults found on films by developing and processing errors
* Role of the IR(ME)R Operator

Complaints handling -TO INCLUDE:
* Effective communication for complaints handling
* Documentation
* Correct procedures
* Difficult situations

Basic radiography - TO INCLUDE:
* Legislation for DCP's
* Indemnity insurance
* Ethical responsibility
* Policies & documents
* What could happen to you if you do not follow legislation
* What to do in difficult situations & who to report to.
