DescriptionThis hands-on course will provide a comprehensive overview of the causes of endodontic disease and its treatment. Our speaker will describe the materials, techniques and equipment available to the general dental practitioner today to enable participants to undertake root canal therapy, on permanent teeth, with confidence.

• Microbiological aetiology of root canal infection
• Access and anatomy of the root canal
• Chemical cleaning of the whole root canal system
• Preparation from the crown to the apex – Crown Down
• Balanced Forced Technique
• Working length determination
• Using variable taper NiTi hand and rotary instruments
• System B obturation

ALL PARTICIPANTS ARE REQUIRED TO BRING A MINIMUM OF THREE MOLARS ACCESSED READY FOR ROOT CANAL TREATMENT. WHEN THE ROOT CANALS ARE LOCATED THEY MUST ONLY BE INSTRUMENTED WITH A NUMBER 10 HAND FILE. NO FURTHER PREPARATION OF THE ROOT CANAL SHOULD BE CARRIED OUT. THE TEETH NEED TO BE STORED WET/DAMP IN ANTISEPTIC AND MUST NOT BE MOUNTED.
PARTICIPANTS SHOULD ALSO BRING MAGNIFYING LOUPES IF USED IN PRACTICE.

Attending this course will provide evidence to demonstrate compliance with some of the requirements of CQC Outcome 4: Care and welfare of people who use services, CQC Outcome 6: Co-operating with other providers, CQC Outcome 12: Requirements relating to workers, CQC Outcome 13: Staffing and CQC Outcome 14: Supporting workers.

Mr Chris Emery BDS MSc MGDS MRD RCS FDS RCS – Specialist in Endodontics
Chris qualified at the Royal London Hospital in 1968, and after a couple of years in oral surgery went into general dental practice. He established his own dental practice, obtaining the MGDS Diploma in 1985. He describes this as a turning point in his career and, expanding an interest in endodontics, he completed the Endodontic Masters Programme at The Eastman Dental Institute, London, in 1994.

He completed the Membership in Restorative Dentistry Diploma and was admitted to the General Dental Council Endodontic Specialist Register. Chris then limited his practice to endodontic referrals and has since been awarded the Fellowship in Dental Surgery by The Faculty of Dental Surgery of The Royal College of Surgeons.

Chris holds part-time appointments as Honorary Clinical Lecturer in Endodontics at The Eastman Dental Institute in Continuing Professional Development, and at Barts and The London Dental Institute. He lectures both nationally and internationally, and is a key provider of hands-on postgraduate endodontic training.
