DescriptionPLEASE NOTE THIS COURSE IS NOW CLOSED TO NEW APPLICANTS. This course will provide registered Dental Nurses with the knowledge and additional skills necessary to safely apply fluoride varnish as set out in the GDC Scope of Practice document and NHS PCC guidance.

This course is suitable for GDC Registered Dental Nurses
Requirements �
1. Qualified and GDC registered dental nurse
2. Suitable professional indemnity
3. Training in medical emergencies (within the last 12 months)
4. Infection Control CPD training (within the last 12 months)
5. Written consent from a GDC registered dental practitioner willing to supervise the applicant
6. Access to a computer, Microsoft word and Internet

This course is intended for GDC Registered Dental Nurses.

Marina Harris BSc (Hons) LLM PG Cert TLHA FHEA RDH.
Marina joined the dental profession as a Dental Nurse in 1980 and qualified as a Dental Hygienist in 1984. She worked in the military, NHS and private sectors until 2005 when she was appointed as a Dental Hygienist Tutor/Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth Dental Academy. Alongside working in general dental practice, Marina gained an honours degree in social science and a masters degree in law. She is a local adviser for Dental Protection and is the immediate past president of the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy. Marina is a strong advocate of empowering dental care professionals to realise their full potential so that they are deservedly recognised as valuable members of the dental team.

Nigel Meakin BDS VU Manc
Nigel is a Clinical Teacher for both King�s College London Dental Institute and the University of Portsmouth. Nigel has over thirty years of experience as a General Dental Practitioner and was the winner of the inaugural Nairn Wilson Prize for Innovation and Excellence in Undergraduate Dental Education at the University of Portsmouth Dental Academy.

Otto Sparrius BDS MSc FHEA
Otto is a Dental Tutor/Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth and has a particular interest in Minimal Intervention Dentistry. He has published in recognised journals and presented at the FDI. He has worked variously in general dental practice and higher education establishments in both South Africa and the UK. In addition, Otto has recently completed his Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education and is now a member of the FHEA.

Jane Lewis BA (Hons) MA (Hons) EDT
Jane is a Dental Therapy Tutor/Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth and also works for Berkshire CDS PDS where she co-ordinates the Oral Health Promotion Team. In addition, Jane is studying to complete the Public Health Practitioner�s Programme in order to join the Public Health Register.
