Aims

The aim of this course is to develop the learner's ability to recognise, assess and manage medical emergencies - adults and paediatrics - in the primary care dental setting and will help familiarise the dental team with the contents of the drug box and emergency equipment.

Objectives

1. To outline the emergency drugs and equipment that should be held by dental surgeries. 2. To explain the team approach to medical emergencies in relation to emergency dental drugs.

Learning outcomes

1. Identify, prescribe and know how to administer - where appropriate - emergency drugs correctly.

2. Facilitate a team approach to medical emergencies so as to deal promptly with uncommon but potentially tragic events.
