DescriptionRadiography and radiation protection – A COURSE FOR NON RADIOGRAPHY qualified operators (core) - This course is suitable for non-radiography qualified members of the dental team (not dentists). The webinar will be delivered on the Zoom Platform- an email will be sent to you at 09:45 on 26/06/20, which will include joining instructions and a summary of netiquette on webinars.  Jo Russell RDN Cert DPM Cert Ed MIfL LCGI Tech, IOSH, GDC 109492 - Director Oracle Practice Business Solutions, has worked in dentistry since 1986, including 7 years in the Royal Naval Dental Service, 2 years as an Area Manager for a large corporate looking after 16 practices across London and the South, and as a tutor, assessor and internal verifier for dental nurses undertaking formal qualification. Latterly she has spent much of her time delivering the level 4 Diploma in Dental Practice Management and business consultancy services for CQC compliance. Jo is a popular and enthusiastic speaker about all aspects of the business of dentistry and continuing professional development for the whole team.

Aims

The aim of this course is to provide continuing education and training in key aspects of dental radiology for non-radiography qualified operators. Requirements of the GDC and Schedule 2 of Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2000 will be met by this course

Objectives
  • To explain the principles of radiation physics and the risks of ionising radiation in dental radiology
  • To consider radiation doses in dental radiography and factors affecting dose
  • To discuss the statutory responsibilities for IRMER practitioners and operators by examining current UK legislation and guidelines governing the use of ionising radiation in dentistry
  • To consider the principles of radiation protection and selection criteria for radiography
  • To provide information on the requirements of quality assurance systems, medico-legal dental radiology, record keeping and clinical audit.
Learning outcomes
  • To update DCPs in radiography and radiation protection for optimum patient safety
  • To understand their role within IRR 1999 and IR(ME)R 2017. Understand the role of Employers, Referrers, Practitioners and Operators.
  • To be aware of the importance of quality assurance programmes and quality assurance procedures
  • To be able to recognise film faults and know how to prevent them
