| Subject | Other |
| Description | Implants in dentistry today are a well recognised treatment option for our patients and the use of implants world-wide has grown in popularity in recent times more than any other treatment modality. The restoration protocols and stages with regards to implants have also simplified over the last few years to the point that these procedures are now well within the realm of general dentistry. |
| Additional information | The aim of this modular course is to expand on the basic principles of implantology beginning with a structured approach to treatment planning, a restoration driven implant protocol through restoration of single implant crowns and small bridges. Part one; Key points for the dentist will include discussing treatment options that are evidence based; simplified check lists to aid treatment planning whilst highlighting the pitfalls and problems that can occur. Interpretation of plain radiographs (DPT, intraoral views), understanding correct 3-dimensional implant placement and recognition of critical distance measurements. A hands- on session will include implant placement in a jaw model with emphasis on a restoration driven approach. Part two; Key points for the dentist will revolve around the familiarity of the various restorative components required to construct a single implant supported crown. This module will focus on the types of impression copings available; the various implant abutment connections and designs; and the advantages of cement retained and screw retained restorations. A hand’s on session will include taking an impression of a single implant on a model. Part three; Key points for the dentist will include the restorative protocols required to fabricate small bridges and achieving aesthetic ‘high end’ single implant restorations. This will include an overview of the use of Zirconia abutments and CAD-CAM techniques to produce customised restorations. This module will focus on the importance of provisional restorations, the need for modification of provisionals and their influence on soft tissue contouring. Laboratory techniques will be discussed and a step by step guide to delivery of final restoration and after-care will be reinforced. A hands-on session will include modification of a provisional restoration with flowable composite to influence the contours of the soft tissues. |
