Please note that attendance at the hands-on day is conditional on attendance at the whole day lecture (Monday 23 May 2011 ) .

This course is one of a number of courses designed to provide an introduction to NHS dentistry essential for dentists who are undertaking vocational training by assessment.

This course is designed to demonstrate and allow you to practice techniques to allow you to successfully treat many of the cases of periodontal disease that you will see in practice.

The course is also suitable for dentists who are new to the NHS or who are returning to NHS dental practice.

AFTERNOON - TREATMENT PLANNING & RECORD KEEPING

The morning course will assist delegates to produce supporting evidence for CQC outcomes 6A, 9A, 13 and 14. The afternoon course will assist delegates to produce supporting evidence for CQC outcomes 1ABCEFGH, 2ABCE, 3ABCEF, 4HI, 6ABCE, 9AB, 13, 14 & 21AB.

Mr. Martin Ursell MSc Lond 1984, BChD Leeds 1974 Local Practitioner and Registered Specialist in Periodontics

Has practised in the Southampton Region for a number of years. Martin has also taught on the periodontal component of the Certificate in Restorative Dental Practice course, at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute. Registered with the GDC as a specialist in Periodontics, Martin has for many years also lectured and provided

Aims
  1. Morning - To train participants to carry out effective Hand instrumentation and effective Ultrasonic instumentation of root surfaces in patients suffering from periodontitis.
  2. Morning - To apply knowledge of current concepts learned at the previous lecture day to the practical instrumentation of root surfaces.
  3. Afternoon - To understand the role of dental reference officers and how the NHS contract is monitored. To understand the requirements of NHS patients record keeping.
  4. Afternoon - To provide a sensible approach to treatment planning.
