Periodontics - Assessment and Diagnosis - Module 1 (BA071011)
| Availability | Course has taken place |
| Subject | Periodontics |
| Description | This first module sets the scene for all the subsequent modules and covers the aetiology of periodontal conditions, their diagnosis and assessment. The day also covers risk factors for periodontitis in depth and there is an introduction to the concept of assessing periodontal prognosis for individual teeth. |
| Additional information | An initial presentation on periodontal aetiology and diagnosis, including discussion on the fundamental role of bacterial biofilms, is followed by groupwork (working in groups of 3 or 4) on cases with diagnostic dilemmas or problems. There is then discussion on risk factors, illustrated by further groupwork and discussion on more complex cases. At some stage during the day there will be an interactive exercise on the assessment of prognosis for individual teeth. As with all our courses the programme is designed to be highly flexible; most of the day is spent in discussion and the topics covered will vary, depending on the direction of the discussion. The course should enable participants to: Diagnose periodontal diseases accurately and effectively. Use BPE as a fast and effective screening tool. Use periodontal probing more effectively. Assess patients' level of risk for periodontitis accurately. This course is suitable for GDPs and Hygienists |
