Aims
  1. Discuss with the patient (in a manner they can understand) their responsibilities associated with the treatment plan, including preventive education, time requirements for treatment, fees* and payment methods. * in general practice (UK) and SDS (Eng/Wales)
  2. •Can obtain valid informed consent for the proposed treatment from the patient / parent / guardian as appropriate.
  3. •Understands which items of treatment fall within NHS regulations* and those which do not, and can discuss the consequences of this with the patient in a manner he or she can understand. * Relevant to the location / country of training
  4. •Is able to manage effectively and professionally any situations where the patient’s wishes and the recommendations of the dentist differ, and properly document the conversation and outcome.
  5. •Evaluate the prognosis for the restorative process of individual teeth and relate this to the overall treatment plan and patient’s aims and expectations.
