Additional information

Nida Malik is a dedicated dental hygienist and dental therapist with a passion for education and research. She currently teaches undergraduate students in dental nursing, dental hygiene, and dental therapy at the University of Portsmouth. In addition, she leads a postgraduate diploma in Advanced Restorative Dental Therapy with the Academy of Dental Excellence. Nida collaborates with Professor Subir Banerji delivering hands-on training, online tutorials, and expert-led sessions.

She holds a master’s degree and is currently pursuing a PhD, further expanding her expertise in the field. Alongside her teaching and research, Nida also works in a dental practice under direct access, providing patient care independently. With a strong commitment to dental education, clinical excellence, and research, she plays an active role in mentoring and developing the next generation of dental professionals, equipping them with the skills and knowledge required for high quality patient care.

Important information

The course includes one full day of theory, practical radiographic interpretation, prescribing, and report writing. The course does not cover practical dental radiographic techniques. By attending this course, you must already be competent in the practical aspects of periapical and bitewing radiography.

All participants must be registered with the GDC as a Dental Hygienist or Dental Therapist. The participant must have proof of recent verifiable CPD in IR(ME)R. Please submit a copy of your certificate to the course tutor to whom any queries may also be sent. This course is not suitable for dental nurses or clinical dental technicians.

Detailed knowledge of dental anatomy and radiographic techniques are assumed; you are strongly advised to review appropriate textbooks and additional resources in preparation for the course.

To further support your development following your attendance at the 1-day course, NHSE WT& E Thames Valley, and Wessex (NHSE WT&E TV:WX) are pleased to be facilitating access to the speaker for portfolio reviews in order to provide individual feedback. The portfolios will need to include 10 radiographic mentor reviewed case studies as well as elements such as CPD and reflections. The speaker will provide further advice on the required content.

Please note that NHSE WT&E are unable to endorse or quality assure this process.

Which means that attendance at the 1-day course and successful completion of the portfolio does not confer or determine competency in radiography prescribing and reporting skills.

Aims

The aim of this course is to support Dental Hygienists and Dental Therapists in prescribing and reporting radiographs professionally and safely, as identified in the GDC ‘Scope of Practice’ Document (2013)
