Description‘Clinical Leadership and Management’ is designed to bolster the leadership and management capabilities of senior clinicians - Senior Resident Doctors (Trainees ST 6/7/8) and S/AS doctors (who are following the Portfolio pathway) - in preparation for the role of Consultant.

Focus:

• examining what leading and managing mean in the context of the Consultant role;

• creating a sound understanding of current policy and how the health and care system operates and is financed;

• enabling participants to develop skills in service improvement;

• enhancing personal effectiveness through exploring a range of leadership and management theories, approaches, skills and techniques, including working in teams and managing change;

• exploring and enhancing self-awareness through use of the ‘Insights Discovery’ psychometric tool.

Learning outcomes

• develop a working knowledge of the structure, policy and finance of the health and care system to support the early years as a Consultant;

• acquire greater proficiency in the key leadership and management skills required for effective practice, including a focus on service improvement;

• bolster confidence to apply successfully for a Consultant post.
