Description*Full day in-person event, two workshops to attend, with lunch provided* These complementary workshops focus on promoting professionalism, inclusion and patient safety within clinical teams. The first supports doctors to recognise the impact of unprofessional behaviours and develop the confidence and practical skills to challenge them constructively, improving staff wellbeing and safe care. The second focuses on strengthening supervisors’ ability to support overseas‑qualified doctors, particularly those new to the UK, by improving understanding of cultural differences and educational needs, enabling doctors from diverse backgrounds to integrate, develop and thrive within their teams and organisations.

Challenging Unprofessional Behaviours (morning)

The vast majority of doctors act with great compassion and professionalism, however there is growing evidence that unprofessional behaviours have a direct impact on safe care. All doctors have a responsibility to act when there is unprofessional behaviour in the workplace, but we know that many find this difficult to do in practice. The Professional Behaviour and Patient Safety workshop is designed to help develop the confidence and skills they need to identify and tackle unprofessional behaviours in the teams they work in, improving staff morale and wellbeing – and ultimately patient safety.

 This half day workshop brings doctors together in a supportive environment to:

  • Define and identify unprofessional behaviours in practice, and reflect on their own behaviours and responsibilities
  • Understand the harmful impact of unprofessional behaviours on patient safety
  • Develop individual and practical skills to challenge unprofessional behaviours in the workplace

Supporting a multicultural workforce: a workshop for supervisors

There can be many differences between practising medicine in the UK and overseas, and it can be difficult for overseas-qualified doctors to adapt to working in a new culture and to different standards. During this interactive workshop we will discuss the educational and support needs of doctors who trained overseas, primarily focusing on those who are new to the UK. We will explore the enhancement of supervisors’ ability to support these doctors effectively, so they can thrive within their trust and specialty.
