Day One – Core Skills

Day One focuses on establishing a strong foundation in mentoring. Participants will explore the fundamental principles of effective mentoring, from defining the role and process to executing successful contracting and evaluations. This day is designed to equip you with essential skills to foster impactful mentoring relationships.

Contents:

  1. Clarify the role of mentoring: Understand what mentoring is and what it isn’t, setting clear expectations and boundaries.
  2. Develop advanced skills: Master techniques such as active listening, effective questioning, reframing, and providing developmental feedback.
  3. Build rapport: Learn how to establish trust and challenge assumptions, perceptions, and limiting beliefs to expand perspectives and options.
  4. Define the process: Explore the entire mentoring process from initial contracting through to evaluation.
  5. Contract well: Ensure impactful mentoring relationships by focusing on clarity, expectations, conduct, and ethics.
  6. Apply mentoring models: Utilize established models to conduct effective developmental conversations.

 

Day Two – Transformational Conversations

On Day Two, participants will delve into techniques for conducting transformational conversations that support and challenge thinking. This session will focus on overcoming limiting beliefs and habitual thought patterns, helping mentees develop new habits and perspectives for personal and professional growth.

Contents:

  1. Getting to the Heart of the Matter: Techniques for conducting transformational conversations that challenge and support mentees.
  2. Work with limiting beliefs: Address and overcome assumptions and habitual thought patterns to foster new, productive habits.
  3. Provide developmental feedback: Learn how to give constructive feedback and create SMART development plans tailored to individual needs.
  4. Creative support: Discover innovative ways to assist mentees in unblocking their thinking and achieving their goals.
  5. Mentor practice: Engage in practical exercises to apply learned skills, including reflection in mentor diaries and a Values in Action self-assessment.

 

Day Three – Action Learning Sets

Day Three is dedicated to action learning sets, providing a platform for participants to review and reflect on their new skills. Through sharing experiences and reflecting on practice, participants will identify their growth edge and integrate their learning into their mentoring approach.

Contents:

  1. Reflecting on values: Understand and work with your values in action to enhance your mentoring practice.
  2. Sharing reflections: Discuss key reflections from mentoring practice, focusing on personal growth and areas for development.
  3. Growth edge: Identify and plan for future growth opportunities in mentoring.
  4. Practical application: Finalise the skills needed to create impactful mentoring relationships, including clarifying mentoring roles, defining processes, and implementing SMART development plans.
