Lecturer profilePreviously a Consultant in Oral Surgery and a long-standing teacher and educator of undergraduate and postgraduate dentists at King’s College London Dental School, Dr Samy Darwish had the foresight to step out of the hospital setting and into the primary care sector, recognising that this is where the greatest majority of oral surgery services should be provided to maximise the convenience to patients, referring dentists, and commissioners of NHS England alike. He has managed to lead and innovate to develop such services through a changing NHS landscape for the benefit of all services users alike.

As well as being a very experienced Specialist Oral Surgeon, Samy is also a Specialist Periodontist, specialising in the management of gum diseases. He has a number of qualifications from the Royal College of Surgeons and has also completed a University Diploma in Dental Sedation, so is an expert in managing the phobic or nervous patient. Furthermore, he is qualified with a Masters in Law from Cardiff Law School.

A leading pioneer in the Oral Surgery speciality, Samy has a number of responsibilities, including being an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, vice-chair of the London Oral Surgery Managed Clinical Network, and Council member of the British Association of Oral Surgeons.

A Liverpudlian by birth and upbringing, Samy is a passionate supporter and season ticket holder of Liverpool Football Club and has the jovial laidback sense of humour typical of scousers. He is married to a dentist and has one young son.
