Ammar Al Hourani qualified from Glasgow Dental School in 2009. He did his vocational training in the Scottish Highlands and later continued his hospital training as a Senior House Officer at Dundee Dental School, Ninewells Hospital, Glasgow Dental School and Royal Preston Hospital doing rotations in Restorative Dentistry, Dental A&E, Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Community Dentistry and Oral & Maxillofacial surgery.

Ammar worked in General Practice in Scotland and England for several years and gained an interest in Endodontics. In 2012 he completed his MFDS RCS (Edinburgh) examinations. His interest in Endodontics has led him to embark on a 3-year full time postgraduate DDSc endodontic training programme at Liverpool Dental School, he is currently in his 3rd and final year of training.

Ammar is an Honorary Clinical Tutor at Liverpool Dental School supervising the undergraduates in Restorative Dentistry and works in two separate practices in Yorkshire and Merseyside accepting endodontic referrals.
Ammar has a keen interest in postgraduate endodontic teaching and has taught on several NHS 63 courses in the Yorkshire and Merseyside deaneries and in doing so helping GDPs in overcoming many of the day to day challenges in Endodontics.

Lecturer profileRahat qualified with First Class Honours in Physiology in 2001 and then Dentistry in 2004 from the University of Bristol. He then spent 2 years in General Practice where he finished his MFGDP Diploma before returning to the hospital sector. He spent a year as an SHO in Oral Medicine whilst completing his MFDS before working for 2 years as a Clinical Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry. During this time he developed a novel way to teach undergraduates how to correctly diagnose dental pain using the
underlying oral physiology. Rahat then worked as a Staff Grade Surgeon in London before starting his Specialist Registrar training in Restorative Dentistry at the Leeds Dental Institute and St Luke s Hospital in Bradford. During this time Rahat developed a keen interest in Complex Endodontics, Removable Prosthodontics for Gagging Patients and the multi-disciplinary rehabilitation of Head and Neck Cancer
and Cleft Palate Patients. He remains a keen and passionate teacher and provides many lectures for both undergraduates and post graduates on all aspects of restorative dentistry across the United Kingdom.

Rahat completed his specialist training in Restorative Dentistry in 2015 and his Post CCST Fellowship in Head and Neck Oral Cancer Rehabilitation with the North Western Deanery in 2016. He is now Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at Liverpool Dental Hospital and also based in Specialist Practice in Manchester.

Rahat is a GDC registered Specialist in Restorative Dentistry, Endodontics and Prosthodontics.

He is an Examiner for the Overseas Registration Exam, the Specialist Membership in Prosthodontics and Endodontics exams for the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) as we as the Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Exam (ISFE) in Restorative Dentistry.
