DescriptionA study day for the whole dental team to help you cover 4 of the core and recommended topic study days requiring as part of your 5 year CPD cycle for the GDC.
Additional information

Small groups will rotate around the 4 topics during the day to allow chance for a more interactive approach.

Please note that groups will be allocated alphabetically so you may not be with your colleagues during the lectures.

Aims

To increase awareness in four of the core study areas:

  • Oral cancer
  • Medical emergencies
  • Disinfection and decontamination
  • Complaints handling
Objectives

Oral Cancer:

  • Discuss how and why oral cancer is escalating.
  • Explore a genuine team approach to the early detection of oral cancer in general practice.
  • Equip the whole team with ideas for implementing best practice standards for the detection and management of oral cancer.
  • Look at the benefits of implementing a robust oral cancer management system in your practice.

Medical Emergencies:

  • To provide an overview of the medical emergencies that could occur in practice
  • To provide a refresher of the treatment for medical emergencies
  • To provide a refresher of BLS in dental practice

Disinfection and Decontamination:

  • Discuss the DoH guidance document HTM 01 05 and explore how to comply with essential quality requirements and best practice.

Complaints Handling

By the end of the session delegates will have an understanding of professional complaints handling and be able to select the appropriate management techniques and be able to implement the relevant strategies in the practice setting.
