| Description | Doing better things - avoiding the trap of making the wrong things more efficient. Why is it that despite relentless cost improvement, quality improvement efforts, structural changes and increased activity, we cannot keep pace with demands, and work feels harder than ever? In this masterclass, presented by healthcare improvement expert Nick Downham, we take time to reflect on the scope, successes, and limitations of much of the Improvement approach that dominates the NHS - arguing that in many areas, we have reached a glass ceiling. |
| Additional information | By employing a blend of taught content, data, group enquiry, and harnessing the expertise of participants, we reflect on methods of quality intervention and their relevance in both primary and secondary care. In doing so, we examine the case for greater Quality Thinking in leadership development and practice, and discuss what it may require for the professions and their leaders to question their work more fundamentally.
